Egg Geo | Jay Egg on CORE Knowledge Podcast

Episode Summary

Geothermal is not a one trick pony and in fact one of the major markets available for Geothermal to make major noise is the heating and cooling space. How so you may ask? Geothermal by definition is heat so using the ambient temperature of the earth at shallow depths is what is referred to as a geothermal heat pump. Heating and cooling account for around 40% of the GHG emissions globally, so geothermal ground source heat pumps can play a major role in the march towards net zero. I sit down with one of the leading minds in this space, Jay Egg of Egg Geo and talk about how his simple in-home installation led to founding a worldwide design and engineering firm focused on Geothermal ground source heat pumps.

Episode Notes

Solving the problem of commercial, residential and industrial heating and cooling emissions globally will undoubtedly be a huge key to our net zero and low carbon future. One of the most efficient options that is a clean energy source is in fact geothermal ground source heat pumps. They simply rely on the ambient temperature of the Earth at shallow depths and a heat exchanger to heat and cool infrastructure from residential homes to large industrial operations. What a fascinating interview this week with Jay Egg of Egg Geo, who solved a simple problem at his home back in the 80's using ground coupled geothermal which led to the founding of what is today a worldwide leader in designing and engineering for geothermal ground source heat pumps.
